Dover Lodge #489

Masonic Lodge of Westlake, Ohio

Get Your Can To Lodge!

Freemasonry has been defined as “A unique system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols”. If it were possible to fit so much meaning into so small a container, this might be considered the most true one-sentence description of what we are. The purpose of Freemasonry is not to exist as a social club, a public work, a social network, or a charity. Nonetheless charity is a duty incumbent upon all Masons as a part of our unique system of morality.

It is with this in mind that the Worshipful Master is pleased to announce the Dover Lodge “Get Your Can To Lodge” program for 2011. We are partnering with the Westlake Food Cupboard in an effort to help gather food for those most in need in our local community.

How can you participate? Every time you come to Lodge, bring a can of food or a personal hygeine item and place it in the collection box outside of the Lodge Room door. Preferred items are canned fruit, jellies/jams, shampoo, conditioner and deodorant in new and undamaged/unopened containers. Any other food or personal hygeine items will also gladly be accepted. All items should be non-expired and something that our community would be glad to receive as a part of our charitable offering.

On a monthly basis, Dover Lodge will take the donations to the Westlake Food Cupboard. These valuable gifts will then be distributed to those in need right within our local community.

Many men come to our doors hungry for the Light in Masonry – some cannot come to our doors at all because they are hungry for food. Let’s help our community by this simple act of generosity.

So what are you waiting for, a written invitation? Get Your Can To Lodge!!!
