Congratulations to Brother Mark Puwal on receiving the Master Mason’s Degree last night at Dover Lodge! We are indeed pleased with Brother Puwal’s progress, and are thrilled to see him make his advancement. Well done Brother!
We would also like to thank the many visitors from other Lodges who were so gracious to join us last night at Dover Lodge. Brethren, let us know if we can ever return the favor!
Brethren, Dover Lodge has the honor to pay final respects to Brother Jack Atsberger, a 65-year member of Dover Lodge who passed to the Celestial Lodge above in February of this year. Brother Atsberger will have a Masonic Funeral Service on Friday July 9th, 2010 at 3:00pm at Lakewood Park Cemetery.
It is always a great sadness to those of us left to this mortal existence as we bid farewell to our Brethren. But we say with knowledge which passes all understanding that it is only a temporary farewell. Keep your apron straight and your corners square Brother Atsberger – we will meet again.
Solemn strikes the funeral chime,
Notes of our departing time;
As we journey here below.
Through a pilgrimage of woe!
Mortals, now indulge a tear,
For mortality is here!
See how wide her trophies wave
O’er the slumbers of the grave!
Here another guest we bring,
Seraphs of celestial wing,
To our funeral altar come,
Waft this friend and brother home.
Lord of all! Below – above -
Fill our hearts with truth and love;
When dissolves our earthly tie,
Take us to Thy Lodge on high.
Brethren, thank you for supporting our Sister Lodge Mid-Century this month with their Master Mason degrees! I’m please to report that no fewer than 8 Brethren were present to assist on April 13th, and 6 Brethren were present on April 27th. Without such interest in supporting our Brethren, our Fraternity would not have lasted over the centuries as it has. You stand in the shoes of giants who have comes before us, and Brethren – you’re filling those shoes well. As your Senior Warden and Lodge Education Officer, and on behalf of the Worshipful Master, I thank all of you who gave of your time. I’m proud to be a member of Dover Lodge, as all of us should be.
Congratulations go to Brother Puwal, who was passed to the degree of Fellowcraft this evening as our 2010 Inspection candidate!
The Brethren of Dover Lodge certainly gave all of themselves to make this a meaningful and impressive ceremony, and we’re certainly pleased that Brother Puwal has reached this new level within our Craft. There were many Brethren on hand from many Lodges and many Districts, as well as many of the Masonic leaders from our district and our state. On behalf of Dover Lodge, we thank everyone who attended to observe the men of Dover Lodge as we endeavored to make this a solemn and moving night for our deserving Brother.
We’d also be remiss if we didn’t thank the men who visited with us after the inspection who are looking into Freemasonry. We hope you enjoyed your visit as much as we enjoyed having you, and we look forward to the day when we may again have the pleasure of your company!
Congratulations Brother Puwal!!!
The highly-successful National Treasure series looks to be set for a third installment! This Freemasonry-friendly Disney franchise has generated much interest (and many questions) around our Fraternity. On March 27th 2010 the sequel was announced with a return of the original cast members (Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, John Voigt), original producer Jerry Bruckheimer and original director John Turteltaub. The release date is tentatively set for 2011.
Interestingly however is that new writers have been engaged for this third story. Now involved are writers Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, recent authors of the upcoming films “The Sorceror’s Apprentice” and “The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time”. This is not surprising in light of the poor reviews given to the story line of National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Although the third episode of the $804.9 Million box-office franchise success has been announced, no details have been released concerning the plot line of the story.
For some interesting speculation around the yet-to-be-released plot summary, see here.
Also of Masonic interest, Walt Disney was a member of DeMolay International.

Congratulations to Brother Costello, our newest Master Mason! Brother Costello quickly showed himself as an excellent craftsman within our Fraternity, and therefore it was all the more an honor to see his proficiency. He ably showed the Dover Brethren that he was ready to advance to the highest degree in Freemasonry. We have great expectations around the work that our newest Master Mason will demonstrate in the future!
Congratulations Brother Costello!

Congratulations to Brother Gillard, our newest Master Mason. Brother Gillard was raised on Thursday 1/22/10, and has shown a true Master’s perception of the degree and the symbols contained therein. The Brethren of Dover Lodge look forward to Brother Gillard’s future works, and are pleased to share with the world yet another shining example of what makes Dover Lodge what it is.
Thanks also to the Brethren of our sister Lodges who attended and helped us put on Brother Gillard’s degree. We truly appreciate your kindness and beg the opportunity to return the favor!
Alas Brethren, I regret to inform you of the passing of Brother Paul Barenok. Brother Barenok peacefully passed to the Celestial Lodge early in the morning of January 9th, 2010. He was an instrumental driver toward bringing Dover Lodge into the 21st Century, and he will be sorely missed both as our Treasurer and our Dear Brother.
A Masonic Service will be held on Wednesday January 13th 2010 at 7:00pm at Zeis-McGreevey Funeral Home (16105 Detroit Ave., Lakewood). Church Service will be held on Thursday January 14th 2010 at 10:30am at Rocky River United Methodist Church (19414 Detroit Rd., Rocky River).
It is the sincere hope of our Worshipful Master that all Brethren who can make it be in attendance.
